Digestive System: Mouth & Teeth
According to the Dental Health and Wellness, bulimia is well associated with dental problems.
Many bulimics have trouble with their dental care because the surface of teeth, also known as the enamel, wears out. The erosion of the teeth because of bulimia happens after one or two years. This is due to the hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which is released into the mouth as food is thrown up. The teeth in the front of you jaw will begin to change color as well as wear out, and this process will eventually do the same to the teeth in the back as well. Not only does the acid affect the teeth, but it is also the decreased amount of saliva that truly ruins teeth. Decreased saliva automatically weakens the body's natural defense, according to the Dental Health and Wellness. Without the saliva, bacteria multiplies in great quantities. intext |
Digestive System: Esophagus & Stomach
When you vomit, partially digested food in the stomach is coming back out through the esophagus, in contact with the larynx and lungs. The food that touches these parts of your digestive system is combined with a variety of acids and enzymes. However, these acids and enzymes are only meant to stay in the stomach to allow and help digestion. When it comes in contact with the esophagus, larynx, and the lungs, it will severely damage them.
If one vomits regularly, they will increase the risk of developing cancer in the esophagus or the voice box due to the severe damage the acid and enzymes have done. |
