Bulimia can dramatically affect your reproductive system now, as well as in the future, especially if you are a teenager.
Bulimia may lead to having irregular periods (irregularly menstruating). If the bulimic behaviors continue, a woman's body may completely stop with menstruation (amenorrhea), which would eventually lead to not being able to reproduce (unable to have children). This is due to the lack of the secreted hormone, estrogen, by the ovaries. Additionally, a bulimic woman who is pregnant has a high chance of a miscarriage. It is extremely difficult to have children when having the health condition of bulimia. There is still a slight chance that the bulimic mother may have a full-term pregnancy and give birth to a child. However, bulimia increases the chance of the baby having birth defects. All of this is due to malnutrition, dehydration, vitamin and hormone deficiencies. intext |
